1.5 Quiz: Cortical Lobes

The frontal lobe, among other things, regulates planning and control; and when this is damaged, a person with dementia (PWD) may say whatever they think or feel without realizing how it may affect others.

When communicating with PLWD it is important to use multiple cues, using words, facial expression, gestures, and touch.

Using affectionate terms like “sweetie, honey, darling” with PLWD shows that we care for them and feel close to them. This makes them feel appreciated and as a result function at a higher level than they would normally function.

When parts of the temporal lobe that regulate language are damaged, we should talk to PWD using short, simple, and clear sentences.

When parts of the occipital lobe that regulate vision are damaged, we do not need to clear unused objects on the table because they will not be able to see these objects.
