ScrippsAVID

ScrippsAVID (Arts-based, Virtual, Intergenerational, and Dementia-friendly) connects older and younger adults to share art, music, poetry, and stories via video chat. Although designed to meet the accessibility needs of people living with dementia, ScrippsAVID connects ALL people across generations. Everyone is welcome to come together to have fun, be creative, and build intergenerational friendships.

How Does it Work?

Using ScrippsAVID is straightforward. You need to create an account, and we will match you with someone from a different generation who is available at the same time as you are. After completing a brief training video, you will set a meeting time with your partner. We recommend weekly for about an hour.

What are the Benefits?

Start living a happier and healthier life by being socially connected because we know that loneliness kills (The Harvard Study of Adult Development). Find joy by making friends with someone outside your generation. Join us in building a society that values people of all ages, including those living with dementia.

How do we Know it Works?

ScrippsAVID was designed by Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University based on its Opening Minds through Art (OMA) program. OMA was founded in 2007 and has robust research evidence that it benefits both younger and older adults. Since the 2020 pandemic, Scripps Gerontology Center worked on bringing OMA into the virtual world. The result is ScrippsAVID. Initial data from ScrippsAVID research show that it, too, benefits both generations in reducing loneliness and improving attitudes across generations.
