Rosary Care Center shares a campus with Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio, but that’s not all they share. The Activities Director, Betty Crocker and a psychology professor, Larry Godrey have been running OMA in collaboration with each other utilizing residents and students for three semesters now. Psychology students enroll in a class to learn more about strength-based psychology and then participate in OMA as a part of their semester.
Most recently, students, residents, and family members celebrated their time together with an art show hosted at Rosary Care Center, completing their third semester working together.
They hosted a reception for the students, residents, and family members to attend and view the artwork created. Jason Phillips, Executive Director of Rosary Care Center said, “The class has certainly proven to be a very positive experience for all the students, but even more so for the residents.”
Not only are the students building relationships throughout their time as an OMA volunteer, but they return frequently for extra visits, only strengthening their bond. Betty describes OMA as their top program and loves how drastically she can notice a difference in residents who are getting a chance to participate in the programming.
She says, “OMA brings people together like no other art therapy program I have seen or experienced. The bond grows, transforms, and enriches each and every resident’s life that participates in the program. For some, our residents may or may not have family and when they do this program they get to experience unconditional family, friendships, and love.”
Congratulations to Rosary Care Center and Lourdes University!
