Opening Minds through Art (OMA), the award-winning, intergenerational art program, links high school and college students with older adults living with dementia to create abstract art. Founded at Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University in Ohio, over 200 nursing homes, care facilities, and aging-services providers in the US and abroad have implemented the program since 2007.
What We’ll Cover
- OMA is person-centered and focused on well-being – Research evidence shows that OMA promotes positive emotion, engagement, meaningfulness, accomplishment, and relationship-building for people living with dementia.
- By utilizing trained volunteers (students, families, caregivers), OMA also represents the opportunity to build a compassionate future workforce for the aging industry.
- Hear OMA success stories, and learn how this flagship program can be marketed as a competitive differentiator for your community.
Funding opportunities are available for nursing homes in Ohio and Virginia to implement the program. This includes scholarships to attend training and start-up supply money (a total value of $3500).
