2.10 Introduction to Celebrating Their Creativity

Now that you have learned how to design failure-free art projects for people with dementia, we will turn to how we celebrate their creativity. In this section, you will learn about how to engage in “Art Talk.” Art Talk is important for the following reasons:

• Art Talk teaches volunteers and artists how to “read” abstract art.
• Using art terminology elevates the conversation at the end of the art-making process beyond, “It’s pretty, I like it,” or “You did a great job!”
• Elevating the conversation builds the artists’ appreciation for abstract art, their appreciation of their own work, and their self-confidence as artists.
