Training Parts and Session Details

Orientation

Meet course instructors and listen to other trainees who completed the OMA training to learn about the course contents and expectations.

The fully online training consists of three parts

Part 1: Methodology Training

6-8 hours of online training to be completed within four weeks at a predetermined pace. Topics covered include: OMA overview; How to train volunteers (overview of dementia, person-centered methodology, communicating with people who live with dementia), How to design art projects for people living with dementia; Practical logistics for implementing and evaluating the OMA program; and OMA’s evidence base. During this time, you will also meet with a small group of trainees to complete assignments.

Live Training Sessions

One-hour live sessions with OMA trainers and the other trainees. Key sections of Part 1 training on OMA methodology will be covered during these live sessions. Trainees must complete certain modules before these live sessions. The specific modules to be completed will be covered in the orientation session. This is a way to stay on track and feel connected with the instructors and the other trainees and address whatever questions you may have.

Part 2: Art Making

These are live online sessions with OMA trainers on two separate days. You must attend both days. We will make four OMA projects on these two days. Bring art supplies (provided). More details will be shared during orientation.

Part 3: Observation & Debriefing

(for premium members only)

Trainees schedule a web meeting with OMA staff where trainees conduct a mini OMA session and are virtually observed by OMA staff. After the observation, trainees and OMA staff discuss online debriefing. Dates and times will be determined individually.

Trainees conduct a mini OMA session and are virtually observed by OMA trainers, followed by an online debriefing discussion. Dates and times will be determined individually. The observation period is 75 minutes, followed by a 45-minute debriefing discussion on another day within the same week. Scheduling information will be sent after Part 1 and Part 2 are complete.
